Promise rings?

I'm 20 years old and my bf will be 22 next month . We have talked about getting married and I want to know are promise rings something like being engaged or is it just what it is a promise ring ? We want to move in and start a life together . Can Any married couples give me advice?

Just my opinion, but outside of high school I feel promise rings are childish. A promise ring represents an intention to be committed to eachother and have future plans of being together...which is exactly what an engagement ring is if you think about it.

My fiance gave me a promise ring after about 3 years of dating. It was a symbol of our commitment to be the best people that we could possibly be for each other. We had a long distance relationship at that point so it was also a way for me to feel like he was close to me. Now, 4 years, a son, and a baby on the way later I wear my engagement ring on my wedding finger and my promise ring in my right hand.

My husband gave me a promise ring when I left for college. He told me that no matter how far away I was, I was still his and he was still mine. And that he promised to never let distance be a problem between us. A few months later he proposed and we got married. It's a promise for whatever your promising each other really. Every love story is different.
