You can either gain weight on the pill or gain weight being pregnant. Try a different pill.

Take the birth control pill, get tested, and use spermacide. Do keep in mind that not all birth control is created equally. Your doctor will help you pick the correct birth control for you. It may take a couple of tries to find the right pill for you. Personally I like Veliet, Yaz, and OrthoTricyclen Lo. Hated trisprintec and plain OrthoTricyclen. Too high of a dose of hormones for me personally. The pill is only 99% effective if taken properly, so there's still a very slight chance of pregancy. I've been taking it for over ten years, never in my life been pregnant. Use condoms for extra protection for the first month of new pills and if you have to take antibiotics as they lessen the effects of the pill.
