Canadian pediatrician question
I have a question for any Canadian parents, since I think the situation is different here. My baby isn’t born yet, but I want to make sure we have care lined up for afterward. I don’t currently have a family doctor and in COVID times it’s become nearly impossible. I’ve called around and cannot find someone taking patients, and haven’t been able to connect through the province. So, when I’ve needed prescriptions, I’ve always gone to walk in clinics with random doctors.
As a result, I’m with an OB right now for my pregnancy, which I got a referral for because this is an IVF pregnancy. When I asked her, she said that they only make referrals for paediatricians if it’s necessary for the baby… but I have no family doctor to follow my baby as an alternative! I’m willing to go without a regular doctor for me, but not for my new baby!
What have others done here? How did you go about getting a paediatrician, and how far in advance of your baby’s birth did you get the referral? Did you wait til the baby was born (that seems risky but maybe not)?
