Late bedtime / early waking
I’m at a loss on what to do. We switched our 2.5 year old son’s crib to a toddler bed about a month and a half ago. Bedtime routine and everything was the same and on track, no set backs. About 3 weeks ago he started going pee on the potty, decided to start on his own and we rolled with it. Basically since he started peeing on the potty he has been absolutely horrible about falling asleep (usually 1-2 hours later than usual) and waking anywhere from 30-90 minutes early, which for us is around 5am.
What are we supposed to do when he wakes an hour early? Or is awake 1+ hours too late? We have a light system but he sometimes (like this morning) straight up ignores it and comes to wake me up, when I try to explain it isn’t time to be awake yet, his light hasn’t changed colors and he needs to go back to sleep for a little bit he just cries and I leave him either in his bed or standing in the middle of his room. At night he used to come out a million times and we would have to continually tell him to go back to sleep because it’s sleepy time and his light hasn’t changed yet. We’ve had to resort to fully latching the door shut so he can’t open it (we are still responding and opening the door to tell him to go back to sleep promptly) to get him to stay in his room and go to sleep, but we hate doing that because we want him to know he can come out on his own and get us if he needs anything.
Any advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation? My husband and I are on week 3 or 4 (I can’t even keep track at this point) of this. Not to mention we have a 2 month old we’re juggling as well. Any advice is appreciated, though we hope it’s just a phase due to potty training.
