Are Squamous Cells HPV?

I had my first PAP smear done in Dec and I got a call today saying they found squamous cells but they said it’s nothing I need to worry about and they usually clear up on their own I just need to have a PAP smear done every year instead of every three years. I asked the nurse if that’s a sign of cancer and she said no but she did mention something about HPV… I was wondering if anyone could explain the correlation to me… I’m confused because I thought HPV was an STD but the nurse told me not to worry about it and didn’t say I needed to inform my sexual partner… 
I’m so confused are squamous cells indicative of HPV?

No. You can’t confirm HPV without testing for it specifically. They mention HPV because it’s a common reason why the squamous cells are atypical. It really just indicates an infection, but it doesn’t confirm you 100% have HPV.

Yes. It is hpv. But like she said this CAN clear up on its own but also may need further intervention. The will just closely monitor you for your next few paps. Hope that helps.

Squamous cells just means there's some type of abnormality in the sample. It's seen in HPV a lot of the time but if you don't specifically have a positive HPV test to go with it, you can't assume it's HPV just based on the squamous cells.
I had a result come up like this about 3 years ago (low grade cervical dysplasia with squamous cells). My gyno had me come back for a follow up in 6 months to make sure it wasn't progressing quickly, which it wasn't, and within a year I was completely back to normal. I still get yearly pap smears just to be safe though.

HPV is tricky, there are multiple strains and not all HPV infections lead to genital warts or cancer. Your risk is all dependant on strain.
Talk to your doctor, and get any additional testing required.
And if it’s nothing, get the vaccine. It protects against the more nasty types (16 & 18) and reduces your infection chances with the rest.

Depends on how they’ve describe the squamous cells because there are normal healthy squamous cells and then there are atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance which are the most common abnormal finding in a Pap test. It may be a sign of infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) or other types of infection, such as a yeast infection. Definitely speak to your Doctor about this and not anyone on here. It’s best to consult a person specialised in that area of medicine. I had CIN3 and then it went on to cervical cancer. It’s treatable although aggressive. Take it easy and find all correct information from your treating practitioner first.
