How do you explain a loved one has died to a child?
I unfortunately got some very bad news tonight. My kids old babysitters husband, who both of my kids absolutely adore & call Uncle, was placed on hospice yesterday evening. They aren’t expecting him to make it through the week. He got COVID pneumonia a couple weeks ago & it has unfortunately severely damaged his lungs past repair. He’s getting oxygen 2 different ways at the same time, both at 100% & is lucky if his O2 sits anywhere near 80.
My question is, how do I tell my 4 year old? My son is 1 & I can spare him the heartache… as much as I’d love to spare her too I can’t NOT tell her because she’ll ask questions eventually. We’re still very close with both of them & talk almost everyday until he got sick. She knows he’s been in the hospital because he’s sick but was never told how severe. She asks to call her ‘Aunt’ every morning to check on him…she’ll obviously ask where he is when we go to their house to visit too…
