Can you use regular thermometer for BBT?

I had been using a regular thermometer because I couldn’t find bbt thermometers in stores. I ordered one that came in yesterday. My asshole cat knocked it off the table and I can’t find it anywhere. I looked under our oven, under the fridge, in every crevice it could have been pushed into. Can’t find it. Can I continue using a regular thermometer?
If not give me a valid reason and not just opinion based. I want facts.

The temperature change for confirming ovulation is to the hundredth for 3 consecutive days. 
So say your 98.9 one day and 99.5 the next that is elevated but 98.99 - 99.58
Is more precise.
The more precise your temps are the more accurately you will be able to track your cycle.

Not if it doesn't have 2 decimals. It wouldn't be accurate if it's the same degree or one off each time.
