Does effacement guarantee dilation ?

Question

Went to my 37w appointment today and had my cervix checked. My OB said my cervix is 50% effaced, but didn’t mention any dilation. I feel dumb not asking if i was dilated at all. Could it be possible that my cervix is effacing but not yet dilated (0cm)??

It's my understanding that effecting tends to happen prior to dilation.

I was 70% and 0cm for 3 weeks with one of my kids then like a week later I jumped straight to 5cm and didn’t cramp or anything, I ended up needing a C-section but I would assume had I not she would have been out pretty soon after anyways.

It definitely could be thin but closed still

Humm I’m almost a 2 and 50% effaced and she was able to feel baby’s head . 
I’m assuming with all the research I’ve done that effacing is just as important as dilating. 
Are you able to call and ask for your stats
