Wtf????
So a year ago my partner was working in retail, it was in a shop where only 1 person is on shift, completely on their own with the manager popping in and out whenever.
So last year in March my partner got attacked by a theif, I'm talking glass bottle to the head resulting in 14 stitches, bruises everywhere etc.
A police report was taken but they closed the case a couple months later because they couldn't find the guy even after posting the cctv footage with his face shown.
Okay, my partner wanted to claim some sort of compensation for the lack of safety at work (all alone, no security, the panic button that was supposed to alert the police instantly didn't even work and he had nowhere to run, also if the guy got away with the £100 worth of spirits it would have been taken out of my partners pay) but his manager insisted to use the solicitors that's owned by one of his family members (the managers family), we saw no problem with it so we met with them, signed form etc. But then when we would try to follow up they seemed unprofessional so we told them to close the claim as we want to go with someone else.
Then his manager begged us not to, he confessed that my partner wasn't even supposed to be on that shift because he claimed furlough on his behalf (basically the government was paying furlough to those that have lost their jobs or unable to work because of covid, the employer would recieve 80% of the wages the employee would normally recieve and it gets passed to the employee), when my partner asked why was he claiming furlough for him he said he was claiming for a couple of people because one of the employees on their very last day had a friend pull up to the back door of the stock room and robbed the place, but for some reason he didn't want the head office to know so that was the only way he could think of to make the money lost back so the head office wouldn't notice.
It was all such a big mess and we didn't want to be associated with any of it so we decided not to do anything, my partner quit his job there (the best decision he could've made BTW considering what he does now), as far as we knew, it was all over.
This was ALL in March 2021, now yesterday my doctors sent my partner a letter saying the solicitors are requesting all his medical records and personal information, that he has signed some paper allowing them to request it and we have 7 days to call and cancel, if we don't then they will proceed with the request, so I called today to cancel it and asked them when the request was made as we haven't spoke to them for a year, the receptionist said it was only last week, but she has noted it down and warned the secretary of this.
What the hell? Why would they need his information now?? I cant help but think his former manager is up to something dodgy again (there are other things that seemed very dodgy, everyone was supposedly contracted but paid in cash, some months noone recieved their payslips because of some issues with the accountant etc) 🙄🙄
