What is a good age gap?

My first born is about to turn 1 in March and we definitely want to give her a sibling somewhat close in age (so they can play together). I always thought we would start trying a little after she's 1, (so they would he 2ish years apart). But I keep going back and forth because I have no idea how I will manage a newborn and a 2 year old! I know it's definitely doable its just hard for me to wrap my head around! Any experienced mom's want to chime in and give their opinion on age gaps?

Sorry this might not be helpful because I’m not experienced but my son will be 2 in a few months and we just finally decided to wait a little longer. We know a lot of kids who are 3-4 years apart and all have close relationships and I’ve learned from others that a close age gap doesn’t automatically ensure they’re going to be ultra close forever. My husband and his brother are almost Irish twins and they’re so opposite they hardly talk as adults. What made us decide to wait is our jobs are going to be really hectic for the next year and I want a little more time with it being just us 3 before having another one. I know that’s not exactly helpful but just wanted you to know I have been in that dilemma for months now! With my first there was no question I was ready and I felt like if I was hesitating so much with the second then maybe it means I’m not actually ready. If it accidentally happens of course we’d be fine but we have stopped actively trying until he’s closer to 2.5

I have 3 kids, 10 boy, 8 girl, 3 girl. And my older two even being opposite genders are very close and always have been. My girls are close and play together and argue all the time 🙄 and my oldest and youngest have the oldest youngest bond. I will say, I always say now that "if I knew then what I know now, I would have had all my kids close in age!"

Our first 2 are 22m apart and they get along great! We got pregnant when our daughter was 13m.
We’re now pregnant with our 3rd and the baby will be 22m younger than our son!

This is different for everyone and depends on the kids personalities as well. What I’ve heard and noticed is that 2 and under is really hard in the beginning but as they grow it becomes easier since they’re into the same things at the same time and they will likely play together a lot. 3-4 yr is nice because your firstborn usually has a tad more capability and independence but they’re still close enough that they’ll likely play and be into some of the same things. I think 5 and up age gap just creates a different dynamic. They can still be close and play but they’ll be in different stages. Whatever works for you and your family!

My boys are 17 months apart. I really struggled when I was pregnant with mom guilt that my oldest was too young, wouldn’t understand, wouldn’t be able to verbalize his feelings, the list goes on and on. But the moment we brought his little brother home it was like he completely understood what was going on. He’s the best big brother, so sweet and patient with his brother and his little brother just idolizes him. The way he looks at him it’s so adorable and makes so happy we had them close together.

My girls are 3 years and 9 months apart and watching my oldest with her sister is the sweetest thing ever. I love this age gap, my 4 year old is such a big help and shes so eager to help! She never feels left out and she's at the age where she is much more independent which is such a big help with a 5 month old. Shes always telling her baby sister that she will always be there for her 🥺

My sister and I are 5 yrs apart and we love it. Her kids are all two yrs apart and she loves it. My kids are 7 yrs apart and we love it. It depends on you.

My first and second will be 18 months apart and I know it will be hard dealing with 2 under 2 but I wanted my kids close in age. I seen how my sisters are who are 16 months apart and wanted the same for my kids because those 2 are literally best buds even if they get on each other’s nerves sometimes. I plan to do the same when we start trying for baby number 3

We did the close in age so my two girls are 15 months apart! It’s close and I have absolutely loved it and so do they. There are things in my life that made it more doable that I need to acknowledge- active and involved partner, we live near family, chill tempered kids. So basically for our family it was a great decision :) good luck! My best advice is not to put too much pressure. You’re kids will be close if you work on bonding that relationship regardless of age so do what feels good for you guys!
