Mom guilt / breast pumping

FTM here. While baby boy was in the NICU I was pumping every 3 hours and it was so exhausting. He’s finally been home for about a week, and I haven’t been able to pump like I used to. I’m sooooo tired. He wakes up every 2 hours to eat, he’s a horrible spitter. By the time his feeding session is done I’m just ready to go back to sleep. My milk supply has gone down, I’m trying to get back in the groove of pumping every 3 hours. I feel so guilty and worried my milk will dry up- Will doing every 3 hours help again? I want to be the best mom I can for him.

… Don’t feel bad if you can’t or don’t want to breastfeed. That won’t make you a bad mom. You tried, more than what most parents do for their kids. Keep your head up.

Also, don’t let anyone mom shame you for doing what you have to do!! People who mom shame are trash 🥴

I quit after 8 weeks of pumping. My son was in the nicu for two weeks so I pumped every 3 hours but once he got home he couldn’t latch and I couldn’t pump as often. I ended up losing my supply and switching to formula. I don’t regret it, it’s ok if you want to stop. If you really want to continue just try your best.

You do what is best for you. If that is continuing pumping then do it! If stopping is better for you then that is ok too. Ask for help if you can if that will aid you. If you are going to exclusively pump though it is very important that you keep a good schedule unfortunately. It is tough and tiring but like I said do what is best for you. A happy mom is what is best and a fed baby however you feed them is best.
