Post partum C section body/weight loss

Hello!

I’m three weeks PP and it’s it tough looking in the mirror. My maternity pants are too uncomfortable with c section scar and my pre pregnancy clothes are WAY too small.

Pre pregnancy I was a size 8- had to work out a lot and eat right.

During pregnancy I gained almost 40 pounds. I was so sick I basically ate potatoes through my pregnancy.

I haven’t stepped back on a scale because I’m quite afraid to honestly.

When did you notice your body start to get to a place where it was recognisable after pregnancy- even more after c section? And after gaining how much weight?

I’m in my 30s and am afraid I’ll never fit back into my

Clothes again. Especially while being SO hungry while breastfeeding.

Three weeks pp I still felt miserable and uncomfortable in my body. Around two months I started to feel like myself again, once I was able to comfortably workout again.

For a lot of people it doesn’t work. For some reason it was fine for me. I didn’t feel like I was burning through a ton of calories to breastfeed tho

It really has 😭 that’s good to know about IF. I am A huge fan but didn’t know if it would be okay while BF. I’m absolutely ravenous now and am eating something every few hours while keeping up with the feeding but maybe I can start to slowly reintroduce it. Thanks for your help 🤍

Yes I started when I was cleared. Intermittent fasting helped a ton. I did that because it helped with my bad eating habits and didn’t drop my milk supply. I did workouts from the alive app by Whitney Simmons and listened to my body and modified as needed. It helped to have a regular program to stick to. To be honest, I didn’t stop crying over my pp body till closer to four or five months. Your body has been through HELL over the last nine months. it takes some time to pull itself back together, but it will if you help it.

3 weeks after a c section your uterus still hasn’t gone back down to it’s normal size! It’s so early. I know it’s hard but you grew a baby with your body and that makes it so beautiful no matter what you see in the mirror. The breastfeeding hunger is like NO OTHER and I stopped weighing myself months ago but breastfeeding and pumping has helped me drop quite a bit of weight without even trying. If you’re hungry that means you’re body needs food just try to make mostly healthy choices. Be patient! my uterus took like at least a month to shrink back to normal

So before my daughter, I was also very small and skinny. Due to morning sickness and food aversion I could also basically just stomach bread... I gained over 60 pounds with her and my body was unrecognizable... I also had a c-section and quite a traumatic one at that. Breastfeeding helped A LOT with the weightloss, in my first 6 weeks I lost 20 pounds and at 15 months I was 6 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight. Intermittent fasting does definitely help, but then be sure to eat foods high enough in good fats and protein to keep your supply up.

Those smoothies are awesome! So definitely try them out and the hunger is totally normal while your supply is building. You are doing so, so great Mama, just keep doing what you're doing and enjoy your time with baby before stressing about your body. A C-section is massive surgery, so your body does need to heal and your organs need to un-squish AND all the hormones need to stabilize, lol, that is soooo much our bodies need to do AFTER it created another human. We can definitely forget that sometimes and then be super hard on ourselves.

Thank you. This is great advice and a good reminder. I have the extreme thirst as well! And I’ve found a recipe for a BF smoothie filled with chia and flax seeds and other kids of goodies. I snack on fuit and nuts mainly. Hopefully time will help heal.

So you are very early in your BF journey still, so I wouldn't worry too much about the weight loss now. Build your supply up and wait to get the clear from your Dr at 6 weeks before trying anything. BF does burn a lot of calories and I actually noticed that most of the time that I'm hungry, I'm actually just SUPER thirsty. So keep well hydrated. I was alone during my maternity leave as my husband couldn't get off more than 3 days. So my go-to was overnight oats with chia seeds which I made the previous night when hubby had his time with baby, I also kept bananas on hand for snacking. I know how insecure this body can make you feel, especially if you are used to fitting into certain things and looking a certain way your whole life. But trust me, the weight will come off and you will feel like a normal person again. And PLEASE, whatever you do, DO NOT try and compare yourself to the influencers and the ladies who post their 6 week PP 6-pack - they have a team of people helping and dietitians measuring their meals and they sure as hell don't sit with a baby attached to their chest 20 hours of the day... Try to focus on baby and breastfeeding first and then try and set small, realistic goals for yourself. Remember, it took 9 months to gain it, so it won't disappear in 2. Be kind to yourself mama, sending you ❤

You’re only 3 weeks out! Give yourself a break girl. I’m 37, had baby almost 5 months ago & it’s coming off for sure. I noticed a big difference around 4 months PP.

I had a csection 4 months ago with our third and I am only now feeling like I’m ready to start exercising and such. Your body is going through a lot! You’ll have plenty of time to lose weight and get it back to a “healthy” place. My mom is in her 60s and from 40-60 lost a lot of weight so it’s never too late to be honest. I was so uncomfortable this time (my first was a C-section too and I bounced back faster). None of my clothes fit. I had one pair of maternity leggings I have been wearing the whole time since and dresses. I also got high waisted underwear to help me be more comfortable also. Don’t worry about it :) focus on healing and caring for your little love. Your body will thank you for it and you’ll be more confident when exercising and such if you let your body heal well. Also I agree with everyone else breast feeding helps even though you are crazy snacky. Blessings!

I got some soft material high waisted ones from target but the feel of them eventually irritated my nerves as they began to grow back, even though the underwear were so soft.

I’m not sure I can share a link? But I’ll try! I got some from Amazon, just regular high waisted cotton underwear that were highly rated. I was soooo uncomfortable too, but these helped a lot.
