HOW DO I TELL MY BOYFRIEND HE SMELLS??

HELP!!! Me and my boyfriend will have been dating for about 4 years in April. I am a very neat and clean person, but he on the other hand is not. He grew up in an abusive household with constant trash laying around and was never encouraged to shower, brush his teeth, or wash his clothes ever since he was a child. He moved out at 16 but still carries these bad habits with him at 20 years old. He is a bigger guy (around 260 lbs) so he sweats often and will come over after work with smelly clothes and the smell is unbearable. I can’t even touch him or go near him because of this awful smell. I have mentioned it to him before and he tells me he will try to keep up on it and not be around me when he is smelly. It has gotten so bad to the point that his smell will linger on his chair for hours after he leaves and I will have to febreeze/wash wherever he was sitting. It’s gotten so bad and I don’t know what to do without upsetting him. PLEASE HELP!!

Is he depressed? Just asking Bc ive heard sometimes when ppl are depressed their hygiene habits slip, and sounds like it’s getting worse lately 
Maybe buy him some comfy clothes to wear when he goes over. And say you’d prefer he doesn’t wear his work clothes there. If he says he doesn’t wanna change, just be up front and be honest and say he doesn’t smell super clean. Tell him hygiene is really important to you and it would make you really happy if he cleaned up a little before he saw you

Ugh I had this problem with my ex. He was a bigger guy, too. He would brush his teeth and shower only a few times a week. Quite honestly, I’m not sure how anyone can go to work without brushing their teeth 🤢🤢 One day, I grabbed his jeans out of the laundry basket, turned them inside out, and had him smell the crotch area. It was pure evidence that I wasn’t being a nagging bitch. Not only did it smell like old shit, but it wreaked of sweat and body order. He never got better with it. I was convinced he didn’t care about himself. I eventually broke it off with him…not for hygienic reasons, but there was a laundry list of issues that were not getting addressed and corrected. I put so much effort into that relationship and I got to a point where I was dead ass tired. That relationship was emotionally and physically exhausting. But regardless, bad hygiene is such a turn off. It will ruin your intimate life. I would lock myself in the bedroom to change into my pjs so he would not touch me when I was changing. Even thinking about it now makes me cringe. I would seriously keep stressing it to the point that he needs to shower and wear clean clothes if he comes over. Let him know you care about him and his well-being and it’s not to shame him. Stick to your guns on this.
