When do babies sleep better? Newborn asleep all day and up all night

Only likes to fall asleep when held so struggling to get any sleep myself.

I’ve heard if their night and days are mixed up during the day you should make sure they’re sleeping in a room with natural light and keep every day house noise up! That way their body will start to self correct. And at night at a bedtime “routine” to start triggering sleep cues. Keep it dark, sound machine, paci if you’re using one!

Implement a simple bedtime routine now. Swaddle, make the room dark, play some white noise, sing a song or something like that. Then around 3-4 month start the sleep training method of your choice. Along with a nap schedule based on their wake windows. Babies thrive on routine. My 16m old has a bedtime of 7 and takes a nap around the same time each day. I started my newborn on a simple routine almost instantly and he can handle sleeping through the night (sometimes wakes for one feeding) and he is only 2 and a half months old.  Every baby is different so see what works for yours. Good luck, I know how important a good night's sleep is and I hope you can get more shut eye soon.

Look up Taking Cara babies. Her suggestions and sleep class have been lifesavers. We follow EASY (eat, awake time, sleep, you time, repeat) during the day. Naps are always swaddled. Always use a sound machine -- the baby shusher is what ours is called and it's perfect. You can find it on Amazon. And use a pacifier to help with falling asleep.
Though this is after week 4. The first four weeks are just about survival... 😬
