Drinking while breastfeeding?

My baby is almost 4 months. This is my first time exclusively breastfeeding. We are going on vacation in 3 months and I was considering having a drink or 2 while out there. I was doing research and just wanted to clarify..
So the alcohol eventually leaves your breastmilk right? It doesn't stay in it? I wouldn't need to pump and dump? I would be able to feed if I feel sober or as soon as I feel sober?

You are perfectly fine! As long as you could drive a car you can breastfeed :)

Usually a beer or glass of wine will be absorbs in about 2 hours. I suggest pumping first and taking with if you want to have some drinks 🙂 breast milk is freezable for six months

Yes it leaves after so much time (depends  on how much you drink and how strong the drink is) if you are worried get the tests to check your milk before feeding again.

I’ve always gone by if I’m safe enough to drive I’m safe enough to nurse. I do try to have a drink right after I finish feeding but since nursing on demand, 2 hours doesn’t always go in between feeds 🤷🏻‍♀️

One drink, 2-3 hours before pumping or breastfeeding should have no effect.  If you plan to have a few drinks, just pump in advance and bottlefeed until the night is over.  Pumping and dumping does not alter your blood alcohol level, but may be a good idea if you're concerned about milk supply and don't want to miss a session, just be sure to dump the alcohol infused milk.

What is a “drink”?
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans defines a standard “drink” as 12 ounces of 5% beer; 8 ounces of 7% malt liquor; 5 ounces of 12% wine; or 1.5 ounces of 40% (80 proof) liquor. All of these drinks contain the same amount (i.e., 14 grams, or 0.6 ounces) of pure alcohol. However, many common drinks contain much more alcohol than this. For example, 12 ounces of 9% beer contains nearly the same amount of alcohol as two (1.8) standard drinks. Consuming one of these drinks would be the equivalent of two standard drinks.
Alcohol levels are usually highest in breast milk 30-60 minutes after an alcoholic beverage is consumed, and can be generally detected in breast milk for about 2-3 hours per drink after it is consumed. However, the length of time alcohol can be detected in breast milk will increase the more alcohol a mother consumes. For example, alcohol from 1 drink can be detected in breast milk for about 2-3 hours, alcohol from 2 drinks can be detected for about 4-5 hours, and alcohol from 3 drinks can be detected for about 6-8 hours, and so on.

If I'm not mistaken you can buy over the counter tests to test the alcohol in your milk before feeding to make sure it's safe.

Yes it’s totally fine. It leaves your breastmilk the same as your blood stream. I always tried to feed baby right before I had a drink. That way they didn’t need to eat again for 2-3 hours anyway.
