Would you buy a new car seat?

My cat peed ALL OVER my daughters infant car seat, the straps and everything are saturated in it. We were already planning on getting her a convertible car seat because she is getting too heavy for the infant carrier. I’m due in July with another baby girl and we were planning on using that car seat for her but now I just want to throw the whole thing away because it grosses me out so bad I’m scared I won’t be able to get it out of the straps and don’t want to bring my newborn home in a seat that may possibly have cat pee on it!! 😭 my husband said he DOES NOT want to buy another one and to figure out how to clean it😩😩 what would you do?? Keep it? Throw it away??

I’d buy a new one. Since you can’t use cleaners or anything on car seats other than dawn and water or a gentle detergent I don’t know that you’d get it clean enough to be happy with it. If you want to attempt it before you buy a new one I’d go ahead and buy her a convertible seat, take the cover off and wash as instructions say. Wipe out the shell with dawn and water and then put it all out in the sun to sun it. You can also set a bowl of baking soda in the seat (never let the baking soda get ON the seat!) and cover it with a trash bag to help with the smell. 
Don’t listen to anyone if they suggest hosing it, washing in the tub, or using cleansers. All of those immediately will deem the car seat unsafe for use and you’ll need to replace it.
Also check the expiration date, if it’s not too far off it may just be worth going ahead and replacing it depending on how long you’ll be able to use it with the new baby.

You can definitely take it apart and spray it with cleaner and then wash it a couple times. If it still smells after that then get a new one for sure

This happened to me and I took the whole thing apart and washed all the washable pieces and wiped down the plastic and the smell did come out!! I learned my lesson and never left it in the floor again😅 check your manual and make sure you can machine wash the fabric first!

I’d clean it, and if it still smelled I would buy a new one. I also have a very strong sense of smell so I would definitely notice it if the smell didn’t come out all the way. My friend bought a super nice car seat almost new on market place and didn’t have to spend full price for a new one. So if you want to get a new one anyway there are options or places where you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars.

Since straps are covered in pee it no longer makes the straps safe to use for car seat you have to replace it unfortunately

I’m pretty sure that according to my infant carrier manual, it says not to submerge the straps for cleaning. I believe it says wipe clean. So if the cat peed all over the straps, they are already saturated. I’d definitely consult your manual just to be sure. I certainly wouldn’t want to buy another one money wise, but I think that’s probably your best option here.
