Grants in the US?

Question

Just out of curiosity, do you US mamas get government grants to help with baby costs? 
Here in the UK there’s a £500/ $678 grant which you can get from the government to whilst pregnant and after the baby is born, to help buy things for the baby. You have to be on low income to qualify but you do not have to pay it back. 
I think this is great because there’s definitely a lot of things you need to buy. Does anyone know if there’s something similar in the US?

I feel lucky to be in Australia! The government pay $772 a week for 18 weeks after bubs is born and dad gets 2 weeks as well. And then because I’m a teacher I’ll also get 16 weeks paid maternity leave that can be taken half pay over 32 weeks in addition to the government payments.

In the US there is a thing called TANF from welfare. They give you $250 cash a month after the baby is born up to so many months. Must not have a job. You have to do 40 hours a week of job search and prove it.  The only thing about it is that they will want the information of the father. That will be added to his child support. The woman doesn't pay it back but the father does. There are agencies that if you take parenting classes they will give you free stuff after so many classes. Churches give away stuff for the baby too. WIC is a program that gives you free formula for the baby but you must be low income. Welfare gives you food stamps to buy food and formula. It's for jobless woman or low income woman with kids. They do services for other people who don't have jobs too. The help is there but once you go back to work if you make a certain amount of money then all the help is gone.
