Negative or positive?

Sorry for the long post:

I'm having trouble understanding the whole early testing or waiting till after thing. I took a test today that was 5 or 6 days before toyr missed period. Well it came back negative and my period is predicted to be 2 days away on the 16th. Am I doing something wrong? I've been peeing alot more without necessarily drinking more, my boobs hurt but only when I squeeze them to see. (Which is new they didn't used to do that).I've have lower back pain, ovarian pain - slight, and I've noticed pain on both sides of my stomach it comes and goes. What is some advice that might make things a little easier to understand. This is our first time trying for kids. I stopped my birth control back in November of 2021 and have had 2 periods since then.
