Emergency vs Scheduled C-Section

Can anyone tell me the differences between an emergency and scheduled C-section? My first was emergency and I’m planning to have a scheduled with this baby. I was fighting to stay conscious through my first after a long horrific labor and don’t remember much about it other than rocking side to side and not being able to hold my baby until we were together on another floor a couple of hours later. Will I be able to hold my baby immediately after with a scheduled? I remember being super nauseous when I was first thrown on the table and telling my husband to move because I was going to hurl. And the shaking, and shivering. I had an epidural in for almost 36 hours before they took me for surgery and my shoulders were like contracting forward of their own free will I also wasn’t cold but my whole body was trembling as if I was freezing. My whole body was in constant motion and I was SO incredibly sore all over after delivery.

I’m so hoping this time is different at least in some ways. Anything you can tell me about a planned csection would be amazing. I know each hospital is different but hopefully there are enough similarities I have something to draw off of.

I’ve had two scheduled c sections, both times I was able to hold my girls shortly after they were born but then they both needed a little bit of medical attention. I know I will get nauseous so I ask the nurses to start giving zofran as soon as I get an IV placed before the surgery. Both times they have also given me a patch to help with the nausea, so definitely feel free to bring that up before it’s time for baby! I think you will have a much better experience this time around. Both of mine were great honestly, I had no complaints!

My scheduled C-section was lovely. My first csection was an emergency and not so horrific as yours sounds but it babies heart dropped so was a rush but his heart rate was steady when I was taken to theatre so I could be awake but didn’t get chance to hold him straight away as they were doing checks on him but it wasn’t too long before I did have him in my arms.My second section was planned as I didn’t want to go through the rush again, I wanted to know what to expect and it was such a great birth experience. I asked for skin to skin as soon as possible. They told me that I could have her before the cord was cut if the cord was long enough, otherwise they’d have to clamp and cut that first then get her straight on to me. The cord was long enough so as soon as she was out she was on my chest and it was the most amazing feeling ever. They let me choose what music I wanted (I hadn’t planned for this, I asked for the surgeon to choose as she had the most important job in my eyes 🤷‍♀️). I

My scheduled c section was lovely. Had music playing and a friendly banter with the doctors and nurses. Highly recommend.

I had an unplanned c-section after an unsuccessful induction with my first, but it also wasn’t emergency, like no one’s life was in danger and I didn’t have to go under general anesthesia and I was able to hold my baby right away. Other than being terrified and it being around 1 AM, it wasn’t a bad experience. I did have a little bit of shaking and I did vomit from the oral medicine they gave me ironically to settle my stomach, but that was all before the surgery. My husband was right there with me, my baby was out fairly quickly, they did a quick weight on her and then put her on my chest immediately. I held her pretty much the whole time they were sewing me up, I even needed oxygen and was able to keep holding my baby. It was overall a positive experience.
