Dermatographia possibly side effect of Moderna booster?

To preface. 1) I have not had this linkage medically confirmed and I am seeing an allergist in a few weeks to make sure there’s nothing else going on. 2) This is not meant to discourage anyone from getting any vaccinations. Even if my booster shot is the cause, I don’t regret it. Basically, I itch a lot and even the slightest friction causes these welt/hive things.

Photos:

- Back itched, didn’t realize how bad it got

- Scratched up from reaching into a sturdy plastic bag

- Not realizing I’m scratching until I have marks

Anyway, about 13 days after getting the Moderna booster I developed sudden dermatographia. I’ve never had any reactions to medications or vaccinated before. Nothing else in my home life or lifestyle has changed either. There’s a small group of people who are noticing a correlation between them developing this condition and it happening about 10ish days after receiving the Moderna booster.

I’m working with my GP and soon an allergist to get to the bottom of everything. But, it seems likely that multiple people experiencing the same thing within the same time range and after getting the same brand of booster, that there may be a link.

So, not asking for advice or anything but, has anyone else had this experience? Honestly just looking for someone to understand what I’m dealing with. My doctor doesn’t fully understand (which I get, it’s a pretty rare thing to develop, but there’s been an uptick of Moderna boost receivers suddenly getting it), and it’s getting frustrating, hence why I’m seeing an allergist.

I developed dermatographia one day totally out of the blue. No doctor or allergist could figure out why. It lasted for 3 years and then one day it just went away. It's awful and I'm so sorry you are going through it!! Feel better, love!

I have always had dermatographia, so I can't give any insight about any vaccine link. But I'm confused as to why you are going to such lengths to investigate a fairly common and completely harmless condition. People always played with writing on my skin as a kid - we always thought it was fun!

It actually isn't rare. It's considered very common with about 1 in 20-50 people having it. The hives are itchy, but if you can resist scratching them for about 20 minutes, they go away.

It’s actually pretty rare, to the point my GP has never heard of it. But I’ve never had anything like this before so it’s odd for it to just show up randomly while I’m in my 20s. My grandmother is a retired nurse and when J went to ask her about it, she said she had the same thing happen in her later 20s that was linked to allergens, and it finally went away when she got them all figured out. Plus, it’s incredibly itchy and the hives are painful. I’ve spent nights ups crying because of how itchy I was :/
