Middle names?

How do you pick middle names? I am having identical twin girls and my husband and I are trying to decide on middle names. He wants my moms name and his moms name but I do not get along with his mother at all and I refuse to name my child after someone who I believe is so toxic to his and mine relationship. This is making me really not want middle names at all because I feel like that would just remove the issue. My moms name is also a vowel (elizabeth) while his moms name is Roberta. I am not a fan of naming my kid Roberta. We have a son who’s middle name is also a vowel (Edward, which is after her father) and I would really like another vowel for my twins. Even her middle name is so so at Nicole. However she is French so naturally she wouldn’t pronounce it just Nicole it would have some weird accent to it and that would bug the crap out of me. Is it best to just not have middle names or do I suck it up and name my child after someone I truly do not like 🙄 ugh I dislike middle names lol.

We have already figured out the first names. Both would start with R’s.
