When do you let your baby taste food (read description)

Question

By taste food I mean like try new flavors such as lick a strawberry or a banana or get a bit of apple juice on my finger and let her taste it, she is turning four months on the 15th

I think 5 months is fine to start tasting, I would stay away from anything super sweet or salty though. I started straight on soft solids at 6 months with my first. Pretty much skipped purees (she maybe had like 10 jars her whole life haha). I did steamed veggies and ground meat or deli meat and cheese. I gradually increased the hardness of the food as she got teeth and got better at chewing. She was a champ eater, I almost never had to hand feed her and her manual dexterity improved super fast.

I’ve let my 4 month old taste ice cream… i knew it’d melt and it can also help me judge when to start baby foods etc. she’s showing internet when i eat watching me like a hawk eating so i know it’ll be soon. I’m just testing the waters right now. My other two i started cereal around now but they were further along developmental wise… my last had a broken collarbone so I’m not pushing her to roll or anything just when she’s ready she’ll do it. I currently breast feed so i don’t want to take from that right now as well.

Whenever they're ready. My oldest had all the signs of readiness by 4m and was trying to steal food off my plate. My middle child wasn't interested until she saw Thanksgiving dinner (at 6 months). My May baby tends to be more like his brother but he's not sitting yet so we'll see

I’m also waiting a little longer as I want to give my boy purée and solids (very soft) at the same time. I work in childcare and babies that only have purée to start with gag quite a lot when given lumps or solid foods. 
If this doesn’t work for my boy I’ll do purée only until he’s ready. Completely going off experience and whatever my boy needs x

We did 5 months with my first. And our plans is to do it then with my daughter (second child)
