Who is responsible for Nemo being taken off the reef?
Here’s some lighthearted controversy.
Mr Ray is Nemo’s teacher and should be held accountable for Nemo during his time with the class. If he had been paying full attention to his entire class, the three other kids wouldn’t have wondered off to the edge of the reef with Nemo to follow.
However, by the time Nemo decides to go past the edge of the reef, Marlin, his dad, has already showed up and is present scolding Nemo for believing he was about to swim out into the ocean, and then has a conversation with Mr Ray about how he has a big class and Nemo could easily get lost if Mr Ray is not paying attention.
But at the same time, Nemo already knew that swimming out to the ocean was not safe. He tells the kids this when they pressure him into seeing how far past the reef he can go. It’s when Marlin shows up and unnecessarily scolds him, he feels the need to prove a point to his dad and disregards the fact that swimming past the reef is unsafe.
So is it Mr. Ray’s fault for the children being at the edge of the reef, Marlin’s fault for pushing Nemo past his tipping point with his overbearing parenting, or is it Nemo’s fault for ignoring his dad and trying to prove a point out of spite?
Or could it just be the dentists fault for taking a fish off the reef whom he believes was “struggling for life” when Nemo was not.
Or Other, meaning maybe it was the kids fault for wandering off. Or none of them, or all of them.
I’ve watched Finding Nemo an absurd amount of times in the past 6 months since my toddler has grown a strong fondness of the movie, and this question came to mind
