When will my milk dry up?

I had my baby on Saturday February 26th, and I breast fed for about 3 1/2 days. I decided breastfeeding wasn’t for me so I stopped cold turkey late Tuesday night. It is now Saturday and my boobs have been rock hard since Wednesday. Just wondering when they will dry up? I’ve been wearing nursing pads and milk is still coming out and gets on the pad. What can I try to do to get the milk out with out my body thinking I’m still nursing? (I haven’t tried to get any of the milk out yet besides massaging my breasts in the shower on Thursday.) My boobs have to dry out eventually right? Like even if I don’t do anything to them?

Honestly, when I got thrush in both my nipples and was in so much pain from not being able to empty, my lactation specialist told me to take Sudafed to dry up my milk. The real stuff, not the generic. My milk was gone in two days completely. I was heartbroken but my baby and I were passing it back and forth (caused from me being hospitalized and on antibiotics for two weeks prior to birth) and it was agony. I’m okay with my decision now, but the Sudafed dried it up so quickly, I really was so relieved to be out of so much pain.

With my son we decided to go for formula feeding from the beginning - and the advise my public health nurse gave me was:
1) Support, support, support! You want PROPER bra that provides lots of support and more or less prevents your boobs from moving too much. I'm using my high support sport bras at the moment.
 
2) Cold! You can treat the aching breasts with cold. Like some ladies have suggested, cold cabbage leaves might help, or just holding a cold pack (wrapped in a towel) against your boobs.
3) Avoid stimulating the milk production. So avoid massaging, pumping and warming up the breasts (unless necessary, as you don't want to get mastitis! but just do it enough to "get the edge off"). So in the shower avoid letting the warm water to fall on your breasts.. rather let it fall on your back.
With my first one I started with breast feeding, but my milk never properly came, so we switched to formula after 6 weeks of trying.. it did take some time for the milk to completely dry off as I did have some bit of a supply, and my breasts used to get really sore if I didn't pump/express.. but don't worry, you'll get there!

Have hot showers so your milk can drip out, without the body thinking baby is feeding, so needs to produce more. Wear tight bras, with cold cabbage leaves stuffed in. You'll dry up in no time 😀

Hand express, pump briefly, use ice packs, tight bras, stand in a warm shower so some of the milk can spray out, be careful, you don’t want to get mastitis by not getting some of the milk out.

Since its your body’s natural response after a baby, it is going to take a bit. You still need to get the milk out or risk serious infections and mastitis. With my first it was about 2 months but I wasn’t trying to not breastfeed. It doesn’t go away super fast.
