How long does epidural last?

Like how many hours ??? Or up until u give birth?  If i get epidural early and im dilating slow… will it wear off?

Mine had a spot where I could press a button and get extra meds. They can adjust how long too. My first took the longest and that was over 8 hours with the epidural. 2nd was only 4ish hours and third was maybe two. They leave the one part in the back so that more medicine can be added without needed to be poked again.

I've had 5 epidurals & they've only lasted a few hours because I give birth shortly after getting them. Lol it's hooked to a bag though so I assume they'd just refill it if need be.

I got mine for both pregnancies pretty early into labor. My body reacts negatively to pain and was super shaky and throwing up at 5cm. Once it kicked in I was able to labor well and focus on pushing when the time came. Once baby was out they took the epidural out about 10 minutes after so I could feel my legs and get up to use the bathroom. I wouldn’t let them put in another catheter if I was starting to feel everything. So I think 10ish hours overall for both labors with the epidural.

They would have kept adding to it until I gave birth. It wouldn’t have just run out after a certain amount of time. I got my epidural pretty early on with both of mine. They took it out 15-20 mins after everything was over.

They keep topping it up until baby is born, then it wears off within about 30 mins. You can also push a button to give yourself an extra dose every 20 mins or so while in labor

I had mine for 8 hours before I started to feel something , had no time for a booster as he came super quick after the 8 hour mark so I sucked the gas !

I think mine lasted a few hours. I remember I kept pressing the button to give more pain relief every ten min or so. I pushed in 18 min which is fast for a first child. I was trying to go natural, but I got the epidural at 7 cm dilated. It was worth it, but I also appreciate the fact I got to feel my body through the first part. I was fighting the contractions which is why they suggested the epidural so that I could just relax. Then the contractions were more evenly spaced out.

I had mine for about 5 hours I believe and didn’t feel a dang thing, it was lovely. Hard to understand how to push without feeling but manage to only push for 5 minutes. I was up and walking 45 minutes after birth.
