Medela Pump In Style Opinions

With my first baby, I bought a Spectra S1 and loved it. Never had any issues with it. Three years later I’m ready to start pumping to build up a freezer stash for my second baby, and my doctor said I need a new pump, so she wrote me a prescription. They offer Medela products and now they carry the full spectra line. I was planning on getting one through insurance and buying another on my own so I can leave one at work.

No matter what, I’m getting another Spectra S1, but I was wondering if I should try a Medela too if insurance will cover it? I was debating this and planning to do some researching and reading reviews tonight but this afternoon when I was at Target, I came across this on an endcap of an aisle. It was so cheap I had to buy it. 😳

Is this pump decent? I’ve never had a Medela and I’ve heard moisture can get into the tubing and cause mold issues, but I figured I can either return it if the reviews are bad, or if I hate it, I’m only out $40.

I loved my Medela in style so much better than my spectra. I got way more milk from it and I found it easier to use. It's not as fancy as the spectra as far as perks go (at least mine from 3 years ago not sure if they have changed anything about the pump) but I was most concerned with milk and found the Medela did a better job at emptying my breasts. I also had an easier time finding replacement parts for the Medela. My lactation consultant also told me that Medela is a medical grade pump and the spectra is not despite being marketed as such by the company. I didn't check into the validity of that comment myself but I don't see why she would have lied about it either. And judging by how much milk I got between the two I'd say it was accurate. I still used my spectra but only if I had to

The Medela isn't a closed system like the spectra so that's shitty. But if you take proper care of it and replace parts as needed you shouldn't have too much of an issue. I never had any problems
