Inductions on the rise?

Is it just me or does it feel like everyone is being induced?  In my personal life I've had about 5 friends/relatives who have been induced.  Most of them were elective inductions.  I'm due in about 2 weeks and people keep asking me when will the baby arrive.  Am I the only weirdo that is excited about baby's birthday being a surprise?  I don't mean to offend anyone I just think labor happening is half the fun!  This is my second baby. 🥰

A study was released a few years ago showing that inductions occurring at 39 weeks had significantly better outcomes than inductions past 40 weeks. So, if you can’t or don’t want to go past 40 weeks, it’s actually statistically better to be induced at 39 weeks.
However, if you are committed to a spontaneous labor even past 40 weeks, obviously you wouldn’t choose the induction at 39 weeks.
I think as long as women are making informed decisions, they should feel empowered to do what is right for them, and doctors should respect that and give correct, evidence based information and individualized recommendations to help their patients make those decisions.

Unfortunately doctors are offering them more because it’s more convenient and they can control their schedule and (hate that this is even a thing) they can charge more. Of course if there’s a medical reason or you’re overdue, that’s totally different.

Unfortunately for most inductions are for various health reasons, I've had 2 inductions and 1 spontaneous birth and the spontaneous birth for me was the most mentally and physically draining time of my life. This time I intend on a spontaneous birth as i have no complications yet but I prefer knowing when my baby is coming as opposed to the waiting but that's only because I have 3 children I need to make arrangements and when things like school trips are cropping up and my oldest operation I'm finding it increasingly stressful, I won't be allowed beyond 40 weeks regardless

I plan on opting for a c section, but if I didn’t I’d be choosing to be induced at the earliest and safest time. I have health issues that mean I need to get my body back to normal (and back on multiple cardiac medications) as quickly as possible to make it safe for both of us.

Elective inductions are pretty common where I am. Once you're 39 weeks most doctors are not only willing but offering to induce.

Yes I agree with you. I won’t induce unless I go over 41 weeks or I absolutely have to. Too many risks and complications that come up unnecessarily with inductions.

I was induced with both. Pre eclampsia both times. My labors were a breeze, though!

I was induced bc I was a week “overdue”. Being a worrier I started worrying about negatives that could happen if baby stayed in too long. My induction was a terrible experience. A nurse inserted the cervadil wrong and it did nothing except make me raw so anytime I was checked or they inserted other pills to move me along it was the worst pain I’ve ever felt and I typically have a high tolerance. Ended up having to have a c-section bc baby wasn’t wanting to come out. I wouldn’t want to be induced again for fun but if it came down to it I would. Even my shitty experience was worth it.

I was offered to be induced with one of my pregnancies. I declined & went into labor on my own the next day. I asked for induction with the others. My 3rd was because we had no one to watch our kids & my only family was 10 hours away. I asked to be induced so my family could drive up & help me. Went into labor a week before my scheduled induction & our kids ended up in the delivery room with us. Lol My 4th was because my husband is a truck driver & I didn't want to go into labor & do it alone if he wasn't home. Went into labor on my own 4 days before my scheduled induction though & he was luckily home. 😅 
All my OBs have been surprisingly lax about inductions though.
