Boyfriend doesn’t want to have kids

My boyfriend is an only child. He has never had a sense for family. His family is small and none of them are close. He says he does not want children. He doesn’t want to have that obligation. Do you think this is because he has a different perspective on family than I do? I come from a big family and I am close with my nieces so I would love to have a kid. But I’m used to a sense of family he is not. Has anyone ever had a partner feel this way but than their mind changed once you got pregnant and had your baby?
