baby owlet smart sock??

I got an email about the owlet smart sock that alerts you when your baby isn't breathing. but when I looked at their website it's only for iPhones? is that true, or can I use it on my android, and the main question is, is it worth it? also is there any other similar item that is just as good that would work with the androids? or even cheaper. I have an iPad if it's the only way but didn't want to spend $250 on a sock if it doesn't work good.

I'm really interested in it because my mom's first born passed away at 16 months when he stopped breathing they found him right after it happened but it was still to late (due to multiple health complications since birth) and some wasn't know til the autopsy, my other brother also has health problems and I had a cousin who died of sids so just looking for more info. about this product for some peace of mind.
