BIG BABY- DIAPERS?!

Help! My 9 month old is just about 40 pounds. He's perfectly healthy (doctor has double checked) he just never has grown out of the eating every 3 hour phase and loves all food! Plus his daddy is a big guy and was a big baby! But he's just about outgrown size 6 diapers and is nearing the need for size 7s. I've been having a hard time figuring out what to do when he outgrows the 7s. He seems to be going through a size every 4-6 weeks. I can't seem to find cloth diapers that go bigger than 35 pounds without being the grown adult sizes and am afraid he would be too small and adult or older child ones wouldn't fit right length-wise. Any other parents go through this? What did you do?! (Also I am in the US. I know they make size 8 but they only sell them in the UK it looks like.) Thanks!

Pull ups would be the next step, I think, but I also think there are some custom diapers you can order, but they’re likely expensive. You could also try a cloth diaper with disposable inserts (like pads).

There are brands of cloth diapers that fit up to 60 lbs. Stout House is one I know of off the top of my head. It's am investment at first but cheaper in the long run, especially if you are constantly changing sizes.

Maybe size xs adult Tena pull ups? I don't know what size they actually are but we use them in the hospital for really small patients.

So my kids tend to be pretty chunky, not this big, but I’m 5’10” while Daddy is 5’5” and they do have short little legs, but long torsos. Weight-wise, they’re always 95%+ (after 3-4 months anyway) and we’re always sizing up the diaper either before or right at when we reach the lower end of the weight range for that size (such a guesstimate). I agree that they usually hit a plateau when it comes to weight. When I had my first, he was in size 6 by 6 months and very sensitive. Size 7 was just starting to be a thing and not available in anything sensitive 🥴 I thought surely we’d end up in some sort of xxs adult brief or something, but the day never came. He gained more weight after, but never got wide enough to need out of the 6. Granted, he was probably closed to 33-35 lbs, but I would think the 7s would have you covered into toddlerhood. Either way, I’d cross that bridge when you’re in 7s and noticing he’ll need to size up again soon. I really think it’s unlikely to come to that 😊

With my kids while they werent theat large they kind of plateaued at a certain point right around a year.  And stayed in the same size for a long time.    And you may just want to check the cloth diapers like buy 1 and see how it fits.  Just bc it goes up to 35 pounds doesnt really say how it will fit.

How do you decide he has grown out?
Do you just go by weight limit or fit also?
Because the weight is actually a suggestion on the pack. Always go by fit an function.
