Daycare advice please

Hi Fellow Moms

My 23 month old started daycare this week and we had to pick him up because he had a fever on day 3. I know this happens but it made me so concerned, he’s been with us or the nanny (who changed careers) his whole life. Now today we got an email about a case of Hand Foot Mouth in his class. I am thinking about putting him somewhere else that has a much smaller class (there are 14 in his current class), but I don’t know if I’m overreacting. How did you all deal and what would you do?

PS his fever is down to just a runny nose and he is almost back to normal

My child goes to daycare with 3 other kids and they’re constantly getting each other sick. One of them gets a cold and then by the time they’ve all cleared it, another one is going around. Kids are just germy. He’s gonna be exposed to illnesses and get sick no matter the size of his daycare. It’s so hard because no one likes seeing their baby sick and taking off work suddenly can be frustrating, but it’s sadly inevitable.

When my daughter started she was always sick. But after about five months it got much better. I hear it's quite normal in the beginning.

This is unfortunately totally normal. My daughter started daycare at 11 months old and got sick on day 3 also, and it was her first time EVER getting sick. She has constantly sick for about a year. It’s so discouraging, I know… now that your baby is almost 2, may be worth it to talk to the pediatrician and start multi vitamins. This has been helping us!

My daughter was constantly sick for the first 6 months or so she was at the sitters. They eventually get used to the germs. They will get sick, just like school aged kids.

My daughter has been going to childcare since a year, and there are only 5 other kids there. In the first few months she was always ill! Hand foot & mouth/conjunctivitis/colds etc.. she's much better now since building a little immunity. They're not used to the exposure unfortunately, but hopefully means they'll be more resilient when school age 🤷‍♀️
