When to test?

I've just started reading some of the posts here and my head is swimming with the amount of acronyms around 😅
I'm seeing pregnancy tests accompanied with comments of "7 DPO" or "12 DPO" etc. Does this mean 'days post ovulation'?
More importantly - when IS the best time to take a test?
