My 4 year old won’t stop playing with food
I don’t know how to handle this anymore. I thought it was something he’d grow out of. For the record he is not diagnosed with anything, no autism, etc. He’s typically developing. He has a thing about food. He wants to play with it. He eats so chaotically it ruins meal times. I have eaten with him since 6 months old to model proper eating but he eats like a wild animal. He wants to crush, mush, throw, and shove food into his face. He won’t use utensils. My husband gets so frustrated with it he can’t even join us for meals because he doesn’t want to lose his temper. This morning I gave him avocado toast with sliced melon and he mushed it all together into a fucking soup and ate it like that. It got everywhere. Avocado all over himself. If I do something like cereal he will crush it up into powder. Foods like spaghetti become a disaster. Even simple things like chicken and broccoli he will tear into tiny pieces and flick it all over the place. He DOES get disciplined for this. I take away his food and put him in time out and show him how to eat. But it won’t click. He isn’t learning. I’m so tired of it. He is starting school this fall and I don’t know how his teachers are going to handle it either.
