HPV positive

I'm 36 years old. Married for 18 years. I went for my regular pap check up. This is a different doctor I went to this time. I used to go to the health department for my pap check ups. They apparently never checked for HPV at the health department, paps were always normal. Anywho, my doctors now checked for HPV. I got a call yesterday letting me know my pap was normal but I was positive for HPV, high risk strain, not one of the major strains that cause cervical cancer. I have no idea how long I've had it, I have only been with my husband for the past 18 years, neither of us have cheated. Does this mean I've had HPV since before my husband? Since my husband? How has my body not cleared it if it's from before my husband or even since my husband? 18 years is a long time for it not to go away. I'm terrified it could turn into cancer.
