What are some things that helped your baby learn their first words?

We constantly repeat words to my boy and he eventually copies.
He has just learnt “hey” because we could say it to him all the time when we hold up his fake phone or see people etc 
He said “pa” today for the first time too his grandfather (pa), and we would say p p p p pa in funny ways that made him laugh and then eventually he tried to copy.
But you also need to give them time to think and respond.
And just repeat repeat repeat.
