Contractions 7 minutes apart?

Was almost admitted to hospital this morning with consistent contractions at 7 minutes apart. Soft cervix but no real dilation they sent us home since we live so close to hospital and cervix wasn't dilating only softening. They said it could be a day or a week till they get to 5 minutes apart but to come in then. Anyone have any idea how long it could be till its baby time for us?
