Diastasis Recti

Anyone have Diastasis recti while pregnant? 34 weeks at the moment and I’ve had it for a few weeks now, demonstrated by the cone I get sitting up. Any tips that can help during or after pregnancy???

I know they say exercise helps (minus crunches, planks and sit-ups).

FTM and would love any advice!! Thank you :)

Everyone who carries a normal size baby well into their third trimester will develop DR while pregnant so don’t think there’s something wrong with you. There needs to be a gap between your abs so your abdomen can expand for baby! Don’t do anything now. Just avoid exercises that make the coning happen for now and post partum until you get your strength back. Slow and steady wins the race. This is 18 months after my second baby

It is diastesis recti. So I’m not sure what you mean? Post birth it will begin to get smaller and smaller naturally. If it’s larger than two finger breadths at 4-6 weeks post partum I would ask for a referral To PFPT (pelvic floor physical therapy: they also help with DR)

Thank you for the reply!! That makes sense, when I mentioned it to my ob she seemed very flat out that it was DR so I got a little worried. I appreciate the tips! That’s amazing, you look great!

It’s fairly common to get due to pregnancy. The YouTube channel Bodyfit by Amy has great videos diagnosing DR and exercises to repair it. Look on her post-natal playlist. You could also see a physical therapist to help repair the an separation.

Everyone gets ab separation in the third trimester to make room for baby. The coning is indicative of you needing to use better form when you sit up, not that there's something wrong with your abs. Try sitting up slowly from your side instead of coming up off your back.

It is preventable. To keep it from getting worse make sure you are using good form and posture when getting up from a laying down or sitting position. It’s a pain but being conscientious of how you’re getting up will help. I’ve never had it and am on my third pregnancy.
