The other insertion was a bad experience for me. I had the beginning of an ovarian cyst that I didn't know about. When I got it in I got really light headed and nauseous. Made it to the checkout counter and stumbled to the nurses station and almost passed out while I puked. The pain got super bad. I was convinced my IUD went thru my uterus. Forced them to give me an ultrasound. Turned out it was an ovarian cyst.

I would NEVER recommend an IUD. They can be dangerous, and in my case - cause PCOS to develop.

Pros: Worked out cheaper than most contraceptives long-term. 
For me, once it was in, I didn't have to think about it for years until removal unlike having to remember a daily pill. 
No side effects after removal that I know about. 
Cons: It was sometimes sore during sex at certain angles which really sucked. 
My usual three to four day periods turned into week-long affairs that hurt a lot more than before the IUD - to be fair, they never really used to hurt before that. 
Overall, I was actually a fan other than the occasional pain during sex. That was the biggest turn-off for me.
