Soo. When it's time to wean the baby off the boob

Rachel

What does that process look like? Currently I work 3 days a week and only pump on those days at work. The rest of the days I just nurse him. He will be 10 months old at the end of the month. I'm thinking of introducing formula. He takes a bottle fine while I'm at work. When I start to wean him should I still pump? What do I do when my breasts fill up? Does it hurt?

You could wait until he’s 12 months when it’s suggested to introduce whole milk or another option if your family doesn’t do dairy. Just start by dropping one nursing session and don’t pump or anything for it. The next week (or wait 2 weeks depending on how you feel) drop another nursing session and so one. Here’s what I did for my first born when I weaned him. Week 1 and 2: Dropped before lunch nursing session. Week 3 and 4: dropped nursing session that followed afternoon nap.Week 5: dropped morning nursingWeek 6: dropped before bed nursingThen it was done once I dropped the last nursing session. No pain.

That sounds like a smooth process! Thank you for the guide! He turns 1 at the end of June so I'm thinking of starting to wean him then.

I had to switch to a bottle at 9 months due to a bad bite and had to supplement with some formula until I could pump. At first I would pump each time she ate to try to keep up supply and it worked well for about a month but my body started naturally weaning and the supply through the pump is decreasing so we're supplementing more formula to keep up. Now I'm participating in weaning 😁 so i cut out the middle of the day pump and only do morning and night. I get less at night so I know when I cut next it will be that one and then I'll eventually cut consistent mornings and only pump when I feel engorged, if that happens. So far I've only felt engorged in the mornings at the beginning but as my supply reduces so does that feeling. You should try to express some milk when you feel engorged so it doesn't lead to clogged ducts. Your body will guide you. A bit sad to end this chapter but think it's good timing with her turning a year soon and eating more finger food. Good luck mama!

Agreed pumping is super annoying and inconvenient! The time it takes to set up and then have to clean each time is daunting. But grateful for the opportunity nevertheless. Good luck making it to a year!!

Thank you for the advice! It is sad to think about because I love that time with my son. He's really turning into a big boy 😭😭😭😭. I'm going to see if I can make it till he turns 1 then Start the weaning process. The pumping process for me has been so annoying this past week. I use the Elvie at work but it has been giving me trouble and I've tried all the trouble shooting tips. May have to invest in something else to get me through.
