So I’m 18 and live at home with my parents. I recently started paying board $70 a week as long as I make dinner at least once, do two loads of washing and keep my room tidy. I’m happy with this arrangement. If I don’t do one of these thing my board goes up by $10 per thing I didn’t do. If my room is not tidy it’s and extra $20 a week. So here’s the thing, I really struggle to keep my room tidy, we moved recently and I don’t have a cupboard yet for my clothes so they are still in a box which means when I want to find something I have to go digging through the box and clothes end up everywhere. If I dont clean them up the second I find what I’m looking for my Dad gets mad. If he walks past 5 mins later and they are still there my rent goes up. Honestly my room is never that bad, I’ve given up on nearly folding them back into the box and just stuff them in so I don’t get in trouble. But even if there is a few things lying around I get yelled at and my rent goes up.

Technically since I’m already being charged extra, I could just leave my room a mess until the next week and try to keep it clean for the next week. But my dad still yells at me that it has to be clean before I go to bed. Am I wrong for thinking that I can leave it until the next week?
