Just another empty sac story....

Rachel
I've seen so many posts like this. So many women going to their first ultrasounds to find an empty sac. I will tell you it was my biggest fear. Especially since I was planning to tell my family about the baby at Christmas before we had an ultrasound to confirm everything, which wasn't scheduled until Jan. 6th. Well, today was my 31st birthday. I woke up to some pink discharge that had me a little concerned. My husband and I didn't have plans until later so I asked him if we should go to the ER just in case. I figured we'd also get an ultrasound and have a piece of mind before Christmas and the big reveal.
Well, I got my blood work which was fine and went to get my ultrasound. We were so excited! Finally we'd get to see the baby! Turns out, they only found the sac. According to my period and ovulation I should be 9 weeks and 2 days. However, the doctor says the sac was measuring about 6 weeks. Heartbreaking to say the least, especially because this is our first. I mentioned if this was a blighted ovum and she said it was possible but wasn't sure. My official diagnosis was a threatened miscarriage. So, now I go to get blood work on Monday to see if my numbers are rising I guess and we go from there. I'm wanting to remain hopeful but I feel realistically this is a blighted ovum. I did not realize how common this actually was. For anyone else going through this, stay strong and I hope your outcome is positive.
