How to introduce allergens?

Listen I’m kinda planning on giving my kid peanut butter for the first time in an ER parking lot lol 🥹 is that dramatic? Is there any way to know if they have a bad allergy other than just giving them the food and crossing my fingers? I know allergy testing exists but we can’t afford that with no reason to suspect anything will be amiss (other than my mom-xiety).

Heads up that allergies don’t typically occur the first time an allergen is introduced. The first time you introduce it, the body will investigate it and decide if it needs to build up histamines against it for the future. So if there were to be a reaction the first time something is introduced it’s likely to only be a mild reaction. The more times the allergen is introduced, the body builds more and more histamines. That is where the concern for worst case scenario of anaphylaxis is.

No it’s not dramatic I think it’s being safe . 
Signs of a peanut allergy
Lip swelling.
Vomiting.
Widespread hives (welts) over the body.
Face or tongue swelling.
Any difficulty breathing.
Wheezing.
Repetitive coughing.
Change in skin color (pale, blue)
Sudden tiredness/lethargy/seeming limp
Depending on their age, your child may not have the words to describe the reaction they are feeling. Listen for phrases like:
My tongue is hot or burning
My mouth itches or tingles
My mouth/throat feels funny
Something is stuck in my throat
It feels like there are bugs in my ears
My tongue feels bumpy
Very young children may pull or scratch at their tongue or ears, show an increase in drooling or sound different.

I mean I personally think it's dramatic, but no judgement if you do. I introduced it as soon as we started solids and honestly didn't even worry about it. Our pediatrician has told us with both of our baby's that the sooner the better.

They actually encourage early exposure to common allergens and the doctors won’t do allergy testing on an infant. Just know the signs and introduce it little by little,

Does anyone in your family have such food allergies, you or the father?? If so then I might be anxious and be ready just in case.. otherwise I wouldn't worry but still keep a close eye. I was told by my pediatrician that since my husband and I both have allergies that our kids will have like 50% chance of having some sort of allergy as well. My daughter is almost 3 and has no allergies so far.. my son is 6 months and starting solids now and I'm super anxious since most likely he will be allergic to something!!!

My pediatrician actually offers his office to moms who want to feed their baby an allergen but are anxious. We come, tell the nurse we are here, they give us this corner of the waiting room to hang out in, I can feed my baby there and the nurses check on us every now and again. It’s very relaxed and not even billed as an appointment unless something happens of course. Talk to your doctor and I’m sure you can do the same in his office.

Ha I totally get it. With my first I did it at a restaurant that was basically across the street from our pediatrician’s office. My husband thought I was nuts.
