Would you let your toddler play with nerf guns?

Just curious because my father in law bought some for my son and i don’t know how I feel about it. I took it away for now because I think he’s too young and I really don’t love the idea of fake guns

It’s a hard no for me. We do not allow any kind of play that mimics harming another, especially since he’s way too young to know the difference. We don’t allow gun or gun like toys (not even water guns), swords, knives, etc.

I don’t think they’re age appropriate right now. I understand it’s difficult when close family gifts things like that, for my son’s 1st birthday at least half of the toys he was gifted were rated ages 3+. We now encourage books and experience gifts in casual conversation. “It would be really cool to be able to take him ____. Maybe he’ll get some tickets for Christmas/birthday.” “He’s been really into pop-up books, I think he likes them better than a lot of his toys.” 
I don’t have a problem with them at an older age where they can understand rules and consequences. I don’t know what that age is, it would depend on my kids maturity. I’m also a supporter of only shooting them at a target and not people or animals.

My daughter plays with her big brothers, obviously not loaded, I don’t see a problem with it. I would probably be uncomfortable if they looked like real guns.
