Crunchy?

What does it mean to say a person or entity is "crunchy?"
I saw another post where someone referred to California as being crunchy, and it seemed like a negative connotation. Sorry for my ignorance 😄

I think it has changed over the years, but it seems to hinge on the appeal to nature fallacy over and over again and taken to more of an extreme. 
I also think crunchy is a spectrum, just being a little crunchy may be fine.
But there is a set of common crunchy beliefs- like being against circumcision, being anti-vax, eating "clean" and prioritizing organic or low waste things, mistrust of western medicine while trusting naturopaths and alternative medicine or diet, yoga, meditation, exercise, etc. In place of any conventional medicine. A lot of crunchy people have a lot of strict beliefs about how to raise children, I think they do attachment parenting, they may breastfeed longer & carry their child strapped to them, they may not send their kids to public school, they may not vaccinate their kids or get an alternative vax schedule. 
Oh yeah and they love to detox. They go on about toxins and many of them advocate for things like coffee enemas- which I don't recommend at all, this stuff is not scientific and potentially more harmful than good. 
I hadn't realized how out of hand crunchy people had gotten since I have been separated from those spaces. I was on the outskirts of crunchy spaces previously, but I don't like to believe anything without reading the studies. Crunchy people believe crazy stuff. Crunchy people are very susceptible to grifters imo.

It's slang for nature lover/tree hugger/hippee type. Like environmentally friendly, crunchy granola type.
