House Siding

Since I was little, my grandparents have had white siding with black shutters...and so did my parents on their home. We bought my grandparents home and are now having a sizable addition added so the contractor suggested he just wrap the entire house in the same siding the new side will get. We do like the darker colors like green and deep blue or slate grey but the darker you go, we are seeing higher prices. Literally tonight on FB, someone I know mutually posted they were having their house painted white with black shutters. I then was looking on Pinterest and saw it seems rather popular. I assumed it was outdated lol If anyone has suggestions or ideas for siding...or think we should keep the white and black...please help me out. I have no idea what I’m doing. My neighbor’s house is light brown so I’m staying away from browns.
