Anyboday travel international with a 1year old?

How did it go and advise please?

We traveled international when my son was 4 months. The flight was about 5 hours. He cried going down but slept most of the way. We traveled again when he was 16 months. Flight was about 4 hours. He cried horribly going down the first time and on the way home cried off and on the whole way. It was horribly timing. He cut his first set of molars on that trip. About 6 months ago we traveled Europe to US. He had just turned 3 years old. All connecting fights totaled about 17 hours flying. One flight was 9 hours straight. He didn’t sleep at all. He ate a lot and played iPad a lot. We were happy to get off the plane but thankfully it was fairly uneventful and no crying. 
Flying with children is challenging in different ways for different ages. Pacifiers, bottles, suckers can all be helpful when plane is going up and down. I always have a backpack full of snacks and water. Of course toys but we limited it because we didn’t want to keep picking up toys off the filthy floors. Unfortunately we used the iPad alot as during the last flight my son didn’t sleep at all. But he did crash as soon as we were in the vehicle heading to the hotel. So we didn’t even have to deal with jet lag. It was a much better experience than we expected.
