Fathers Rights: Not Married?

Question

So I am currently expecting my first child with my boyfriend and we have gotten into many fights about last name and plethora of other things. 
He is threatening I will be alone in the hospital if I do not change my mind and give baby his last name. So I was wondering.. if we aren’t married does he legally have any rights or say so at all? 
I don’t know how the paperwork or the law works really, but does he have any say/rights in this matter? TIA.

No he cannot force you to have the baby’s last name be his… you are the patient. You have the right to refuse anything and everything you do or do not want during birth or immediately after. Yes he has rights but on decision that affect the well being of the child …. Last I checked the last name has no bearing on the well being of that child.

He shouldn’t be at the hospital anyway if he’s acting like this. Like threatening you and shit. I would have told him not to come then, if he wants to miss the birth of his child over something like that … fuck no.

Depends on the state you’re in. In Nevada the child has the right to carry both patients last names. My DH’s ex tried pulling that trick with not putting him on the birth certificate and giving the child her last name only but he was able to take her to court and later had it changed to include his last name.  He also has joint physical and legal custody. 
Even if you do what you want, he can take you to court. My suggestion is to find out what the laws are and stick with that. Don’t force each other to go to court. That’s really not the right way to start coparenting a child. You’re both adults and going to be parents and you’re already fighting and acting like children.

Think it depends where you live.
I'm in the uk and I'm not married but as my partner is on my kids birth certificate, he has rights.
My daughters also have his last name

No he doesn’t. As unmarried ,in ohio anyway, you are the sole custodial parent. He actually would have to apply in the courts for visitation I even see the baby.  Giving the kid his last name and him signing the birth certificate mean nothing as well. My ex signed both the kids and they have his last name and when we broke up he had to go to a lawyer to get his rights established.

Legally? It depends on the state you reside. Ethically? I mean, it is half of his dna which is technically his property. If he’s planning on being in his kids life, what’s the reservation on your part? Just curious.
