What kind of moisturizer or cream do I need for my face before applying foundation?

When I apply foundation when I use elf moisturizer. My foundation (Merle Norman) tends to be cakey like. I apply my foundation with the sponge it came with. 
I have used CoverGirl foundation in the past. If I don't two foundations,please tell me the kind I need? 
My grandma bought me some Neutrogena Healthy Skin firming cream  moisturizer but think it's for wrinkles. It says it reduces wrinkles in 4 weeks.

I use Ponds. I would rather use it than the expensive moisturizers personally. I buy the ones in the travel section.

I recently got this one because I have oily skin, but it can also be dry. I also think it’s super important to use something with an SPF in it. So far I don’t mind this one, but it’s a bit thicker than I thought it would be. 
A splurge moisturizer that I always enjoyed was Clinique gel moisturizer.

I would try a better moisturizer first. It’s never too early to start using anti-wrinkle/firming creams. They are the most hydrating, so they may even look better under your make up. But with wrinkle creams, you have to let your skin get used to them for a few weeks. I would definitely give it a chance though. Or you could try a good hydrating primer like the one Tarte makes.
