guy troubles

Me and this guy have been in relationship for about a year. The last 4 months though we were pretty serious with each other… we went on dates, told our parents about each other, had sex, etc. However we recently found out that we would be moving across the country from each other. After this we kind of started drifting from each other and didn’t see each other as much. We both admitted we felt this way and talked about how we felt with everything. We both love each other very much and will always be thankful for each other. He even told me I should move with him after my first year of college. Although tonight he admitted that he thinks that at this point in time a dating isn’t much of an option and that instead we should just be friends with benefits for the next three months before we have to leave each other. I agree with this as there’s not much of a point getting attached to only have to leave each other so soon. But at the same time I don’t want to lose him but that just might be the selfishness in me.

is all of this a red flag with him? I of course love him but I question if he is just using me? I already dread having to leave him so will keeping in contact with him be worth it?
