Can you get pregnant while breastfeeding?

I’m only 3 weeks postpartum, not having sex until I’m cleared by my OB. But I’m wondering since chances of having a period while breastfeeding are slim, can you still get pregnant?

Chances are slim, but not 0, of getting a period when following the EBF rules (no bottles, no pacifiers, you meet all of baby's sucking needs, baby feeds at least every 4hrs at day and 6hrs at night, baby is younger than 6 months and not on solids). I'm 15 weeks pp and meet the EBF criteria and I just finished my first period a few days ago (it was anovulatory though, I use FAM to prevent pregnancy and there was no ovulation that first cycle). You can definitely get a period and get pregnant while breastfeeding!

Yes definitely. If you strictly follow the protocols of the lactational amenorrhea method (LAM) though you can use it as birth control up until six months postpartum. I did that successfully after both kids.

My baby is exclusively breastfed since day 1. Never used a pacifier, never bottle fed, co slept attached to my boob for the first couple weeks and I got my first period back at 3 months, and they’ve been regular since. I don’t think chances are slim
